Pinstripes at the Park Tavern

February  3, 2015

Park Tavern had a big week with Big Apple icons. Derek Jeter was also spotted there by a spy the week of January 28th. Again, the restaurant couldn’t confirm, so maybe he’s enjoying his retirement as an undercover diner with the Michelin Guide. Gosh, we hope so.

Captain Clutch at Picán

June 17, 2014

Another all-star sighting, this time with a sporty twist: Derek Jeter was spotted at Picán on Saturday night. He came in quite late with a group of four old friends, and was very friendly with the staff, signing baseballs and generally being charming. He had a porterhouse steak (excellent choice) and the shrimp and grits.

Baseball and Benihana

July 24, 2012

A reader writes in that Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees had lunch at Benihana in Japantown with a teammate (they were placed at their own private table). My spotter notes: “Funny that they would eat there since they are staying at the St. Regis and could have lunch at Benu [ed. note: Benu isn’t open for lunch], Prospect, or one of those places closer to their hotel. The Yankees were in town for a four-game series with the A’s.”

More Sightings of A-Rod and Derek Jeter on the Town

June  7, 2011

Last Tuesday, a tablehopper tipster spotted Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter lunching separately at Scala’s Bistro.

Later that evening, A-Rod came in to Ozumo San Francisco with a guest after the kitchen was already closed, but the staff sent out some salads and a huge plate of sashimi.

Yankee Panky

May 31, 2011

On Sunday night, 11 Yankees players came in for dinner at Ame, all dressed up and dapper in suits. Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and CC Sabathia dined at a separate table from the group and drank some old Bordeaux. The rest of the team was reportedly very upbeat while enjoying their dinner with tequila shots, and there were plenty of gawkers in the full dining room. (The team is staying at the St. Regis.)

And on Monday evening, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Curtis Granderson, and Robinson Cano were all spotted having a drink at the Downstairs Bar at W San Francisco after their game against the Oakland A’s.

Derek Jeter on the Town

July 13, 2010

I got all kinds of updates about New York Yankee Derek Jeter on the town: he reportedly had some chicken parmigiana for lunch at Colosseo in North Beach (414 Columbus), and he also came in to FiDi’s Palio D’Asti late last Tuesday afternoon for some carb-loading pizza and pasta before the evening game against the Oakland A’s (he was with his close buddy and teammate, Jorge Posada). My spy writes: “Am sure they didn’t expect to have the tab picked up by a fellow diner who never even approached the table. Instead, the classy fan simply asked the GM to deliver a card, on which he wrote, ‘Thanks for the many great baseball memories.’”

And later that night, after their 6-1 win against the Oakland A’s, Jeter and Posada came in to the Redwood Room at the Clift. My Clift spotter says, “They were only at the bar for about an hour, but that was enough time for them to order some rounds of Clase Azul Reposado Tequila and Glenlivet 16yr Scotch.”
