One of the city’s most effective organizations working with our homeless population is Episcopal Community Services, and one of their best programs is CHEFS (Conquering Homelessness through Employment in Food Services), which many of you have heard me talk about. It’s a five-month culinary training program that provides students with classroom instruction, in-kitchen hands-on training, and an internship at a local restaurant or institutional kitchen setting.
This year, its 13th, the CHEFS Gala (formerly Summertini) is on Thursday June 8th, featuring bites from top Bay Area restaurants (including Kin Khao, Octavia, Nopa, and State Bird Provisions), cocktails, and live and silent auctions (there are always great items to bid on). It’s their most important fundraiser of the year to help raise awareness and funds for homeless San Franciscans. They help more than 7,000 homeless and low-income people every year. You can too.
