Hello, it’s me. I posted this on social media yesterday, but I wanted to send this update along to you, my beloved readers...

Well, it’s the end of an era. After 30 years in my beloved studio on Broderick Street (pictured here), I just moved into an apartment near Lafayette Park last week. (I know, shocking.) This has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life—I thought I would have that apartment forever. (Shoutout to rent control for keeping creatives in The City!) But after my landlady Barbara sadly died two years ago, things have not been the same, and I needed to leave.

Both the emotional and physical lifting of 30 years of memories and belongings have been truly and utterly exhausting this past month, hence the radio silence over here. I don’t have the mental bandwidth to respond to comments, questions, calls, DMs, texts, or emails right now, let alone write a column this week. I definitely need this week to get out of these endless boxes, so thanks for bearing with me. I’ll be back in your inbox with the news and will be more available (and responsive) next week!

I’m okay, just feeling almost every possible feeling you could think of, all at once. It’s a lot. Friends are helping me get through this. But I do want to say thank you for allllllll the memories in the Lady Lair, the Peach Pit, and Hopper HQ. So many laughs and talks and meals and late nights and bubbly 🥂 and bourbon and cigarettes and weed and rooftop moments with many of you. Oh, the stories in that place! It was truly an honor to live on Broderick Row in that grand Queen Anne Victorian (which dates back to 1891!), with my sister just down the street (long live the Broderick Sisters), and dear friends around every corner. I loved my neighborhood so much. The Western Addition/NoPa forever has my heart.

And so, a new chapter of my San Francisco story begins. Fortuna is adjusting well to her new nest, and if anyone has a lead on a parking spot around Clay/Sacramento/Franklin/Van Ness/Polk, my lil’ Fiat 🚗 needs a spot! Meep!

With so much love and 🙏💖 to all. 💫

See you next week. XO.
