Back in December, I mentioned that Chuck Stilphen of The Trappist in Oakland would be opening a beer-focused bar and restaurant in the former Crash Nightclub at 34 Mason Street (it’s actually a cool 1907 building). Well, as I was cruising around on Twitter last week looking at pictures of people in loooong lines for Pliny the Younger, I discovered the project is now MIKKELLER BAR, as in the famous Mikkeller bar and brewery in Denmark. As mentioned earlier, there will be 40 taps of some of the world’s best beers, and per its Facebook page, two cask handles, a specialized bottle selection, and exclusive house beers, plus a “sour room” for lambic and sour beers. The Twitter profile mentions late spring; stand by! 34 Mason St. at Turk.
Grub Street has been tracking the developments at DRIFTWOOD, a new SoMa bar opening in the current Kok Bar space (it’ll always be My Place to me, and The Ramrod for others). The new owners are Shawn Magee (Amnesia) and Christopher Milstead (both surfers, hence the name), and they will reportedly be opening a “laid-back, mixed, cocktail lounge with a cozy vibe, after a substantial makeover.” Kok will be open though the beginning of March or so, and then once the gents get the keys, they will begin their remodel, hoping to reopen in three months or so. 1225 Folsom St. at 8th St.
