Hoodline reports that Hayes Valley is about to get a new wine bar (just around the corner from Fig & Thistle, no less). It’s called BIRBA, which is Italian for “little troublemaker” or “rascal,” and comes from owner Angie Valgiusti, who previously was the sommelier at Slanted Door and consulted on the wine list at Bar Jules. She only just signed the lease, and plans to open the small wine bar with a back garden sometime in the next three to six months. There won’t be a full kitchen, but you will find some small bites to go with the wines. She’s hoping to provide a good place for those looking for a bite and a glass of wine before or after a show. For now, she’s still in the planning stages, but we’ll let you know when we hear more. 458 Grove St. at Gough.
