There’s a new bar that opened in Bernal, THE ROYAL CUCKOO (as Grub Street noted, it was the former Belinda’s, and dates back to 1907). UrbanDaddy mentioned it’s now open, with an eclectic-sounding look (taxidermy, church pews), quality classic cocktails, and a card-cataloged collection of vintage records you can play. A reviewer on Yelp also mentioned the Hammond organ was in effect one evening, with live music (including singer Lavay Smith). I think the bar looks pretty fabulous—reminds me of some of the hideaways I used to frequent when living in Los Angeles—dig the wood ceiling! Open nightly, from 6pm-2am (and sometimes open earlier in the afternoon). 3202 Mission St. at Valencia, 415-550-8667.
