Last call for tickets to this Friday's tablehopper vintage Blue Fox dinner at Alfred's!
Tomorrow evening (Friday May 12th) is an only-in-SF kind of night, and there are just a few tickets left! Grab some friends, dress up, and join us for my tablehopper vintage dinner celebrating the Blue Fox at Alfred’s! This five-course dinner will feature original recipes from the Blue Fox and Alfred’s, with classic cocktails from Anchor Distilling Co. and wine pairings from Robert Mondavi Winery .
Did you know that where Alfred’s is now, on Merchant at Kearny, was formerly the home of the Blue Fox? The Blue Fox closed after a 60-year run in 1993, and was a pantheon of fine and Continental dining for years. Joan Crawford had her own stash of vodka there, and Marilyn Monroe sashayed to her table one night. (I will be sharing many more great stories tomorrow!)
For our reception (beginning at 6pm), guests can enjoy a martini or Martinez thanks to local distiller Anchor Distilling Co.—we will be featuring Junípero gin, Old Tom gin, and the very special pot-distilled Old Potrero 18th Century whiskey this evening.
We will sit down for our five-course dinner in the main dining room, and you can view the menu here (it integrates original Blue Fox and Alfred’s dishes and recipes I tracked down, with some new touches as well, thanks to chef Bryan Baker).
We will enjoy reserve wine pairings this evening from one of the greats: Robert Mondavi Winery. One of their senior wine educators, Dana Andrus, will be at the dinner. He has been with the winery for many years and has some great stories to share about the deep Robert Mondavi Winery history and will speak to the wines.
As many of you may know, Alfred’s suffered an unfortunate basement fire a few weeks ago, and they are still closed and recovering from it. Fortunately, there was no serious damage to the main restaurant, but it’s still going to take a little more time to reopen to the public. In the meantime, Alfred’s is going to open for us, just for our event, and we will have the restaurant to ourselves!
Eric Shifrin, our piano player, will be playing swanky tunes, from Hoagy Carmichael to classic songs Frank Sinatra would have sung.
The event is $175, inclusive of tax and gratuity—get your ticket here. Your ticket price also includes a tablehopper Blue Fox T-shirt (there is the option to upgrade to an ultra-plush Blue Fox hoodie/sweatshirt instead, ticket price is $190). When booking your reservation, please specify any guests you want to be seated with.
Cocktail attire…vintage is encouraged! 21 and over, of course. Don’t miss this glamorous SF dining experience! See you tomorrow, Friday May 12th! Cin cin!
